A Place Where We Live and Called Home – Malaysia
Intro
Malaysia got it’s very own independence in 1957, August 31st. Since then we’ve been celebrating it for over 49 years and this is the 50th year. Just after the independence of Malaysia, difficult decisions are already pave their way there waiting for us. Malaya was the first to decide which territories should be included in the new state by giving choices to the states. The term Malaya was ended in 1961 after a new term Malaysia was used after the late Tunku Abdul Rahman convinced Singapore, Sabah, and Sarawak to join Malaya in a federal union. Singapore was then opted out of the union to being a stand alone country, peacefully, in 1965. There’s more to dealt with, another problems prefaced that is determination of a national identity. Malaysia are a mix of people from many races and cultures, and trying to unite them all under a nation wasn’t either an easy job. Since Malays are the majority population in Malaysia, 2nd are Chinese and Indian 3rd. Under the constitution malays are governed thus giving them permanent spots in the government, Islam are the national religion, and national language are malay. The government which are controlled by the United Malay National Organization, passed the New Economic Policy, which attempted to increase economic opportunity for the malay by establishing various quotas in their favor and many requirement are set under the new policy. This unsurprisingly has raised voices in the people. A significant opposition party then is formed and in 1969, the opposition party has won significant seats, riots swept through Kuala Lumpur and the country was placed in a state of emergency for two years. It was a painful moment in the young nation’s history. As time fade, things have been changed too. Changed to better.
Today, our nation has grown much and the peoples are living under prosperity that has arguably made significant progress in race relations. Many attribute the country’s success to the dynamic leadership of our former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohammed, who led the country from 1981 through 2003.
Malaysia's flag is based on that of the United States, a country whose democratic ideals the young nation sought to emulate upon gaining independence from Great Britain in 1957. The 14 stripes represent Malaysia's states, while the square in the upper left contains the moon and sun of Islam.

Designing An Architectural Icon – Petronas Twin Tower
There’s something that you wouldn’t want to miss when you visit the Suria KLCC. That is the two towers that embedded on the ground of Kuala Lumpur golden triangle just beside Suria KLCC.
The PETRONAS Twin Towers was designed by Cesar Pelli & Associates (USA) in association with KLCC architects.
The tower's floor plate design is based on simple Islamic geometric forms of two interlocking squares creating a shape of eight-pointed stars. Upon the eight-pointed stars, are eight superimposed semi-circles softening the inner angles.
These semicircles are themselves anchored by the arcs of the main structural columns of the buildings. The semi-circles were superimposed in the inner angles of the interlocked squares to create more usable floor space.
The design details continued to dictate the way in which the buildings would rise in as graceful a fashion as possible. To maintain the vertical axis and tapering of the design, each tower is set back five times in its ascent.
Architecturally, these forms reflect the paramount Islamic principles of "unity within unity, harmony, stability and rationality."
At the uppermost floors, the walls are gently sloped inward to taper and contribute visually to the height and the elegant form of horizontal silver ribbons of stainless steel.
Every aspect of the design contributes to the audacious verticality of the Towers. The decision to symmetrically align the Twin Towers and connect them with a spanning bridge emphasized the classical nature of the architectural design.
The writings of Lao Tse, the ancient philosopher and founder of Taoism in China, tell that the reality of a hollow object is in the void and not in the walls. Cesar Pelli, architect of the Towers, has drawn upon the strength of the void between the buildings -- delineating an invisible axis of symmetry. For the architect, it is this void that gives the PETRONAS Twin Towers their sense grandeur and unique identity.
